The history of the school of art of southwest university for nationalities can be traced back to the 1950s. The professional art education of southwest university for nationalities began in the early 1950s, and the school of art was established on the basis of the former art department in 2000. The school now has 6 departments of art design, painting, animation, music, dance, drama, film and television, and 1 theoretical teaching and research office. There are 12 undergraduate majors in art design (graphic design), painting, animation, photography, sculpture, fine arts, costume design, musicology, music performance, dance performance, dance choreographer and film and television performance. It has one doctoral degree authorization center for Chinese minority art, two first-level disciplines for master's degree in fine arts, music and dance, one second-level discipline for master's degree in Chinese minority art, and one master's degree authorization center in fine arts. At the same time, the school has laboratories and studios for performing arts, film and television production, shape, design, sculpture, MIDI music, screen painting, multidimensional animation, copperplate, recording studio, studio and so on. At present, the college has more than 2200 undergraduates, 218 graduate students, 130 faculty members, including 40 full and associate professors, and a number of well-known painters, singers, performers, dancers and performing artists. The school has also appointed more than 30 national famous artists and art educators as honorary professors, distinguished professors and visiting professors. In recent years, a large number of teachers and students have won the international and national gold and silver awards for their creations and performances. Up to now, the institute has more than 20 teachers and researchers studying abroad.
