The Xinghai Conservatory of Music, located in guangzhou, guangdong province, is the only institution of higher learning in Music in south China. It has nurtured a group of outstanding musicians leading the trend of modern and contemporary Chinese Music culture, including xiao youmei, ma sicong and li ling. 

Xinghai conservatory of music, formerly known as guangzhou music school, was founded in 1957. In 1958, it was set up as guangzhou music academy. In early 1965, it was merged with guangdong dance school and became guangdong art academy. 1969 it was merged with guangzhou academy of fine arts into guangdong people's academy of art; In March 1978, it was renamed guangzhou music academy. In June 1981, the state council approved the establishment of guangzhou conservatory of music. In December 1985, it was renamed xinghai conservatory of music in memory of the cantonese musician xian xinghai. 

As of November 2017, the university has two campuses, guangzhou university town campus and shahe campus, covering an area of 225,478 square meters, with a construction area of 200,000 square meters, and teaching and scientific research equipment worth 86.2793 million yuan. There are 17 undergraduate departments (departments), 7 enrollment majors, 22 major directions; There are 567 teaching and administrative staff, 4264 undergraduate students, 469 adult education students, 251 graduate students. as of December 2018, xinghai conservatory of music has been rated as a social art level grading institution.、
