The University of Dhaka, also known as Dhaka University; , founded in 1921, is a large (more than 30,000 people) public research comprehensive university. 

Dhaka university is the oldest university in modern Bangladesh. It was founded by the British Indian government in 1921. Dhaka university, modelled on the niujian education model and once known as the "Oxford of the east", has had a major influence on Bangladesh's development. 

The establishment of dhaka university itself was a compensation for the partition of Bangladesh, but was not possible because the treaty was abolished in 1911.
